The more things change…

I read in the morning paper that the Indiana Pacers lost their opening playoff game after leading for the first 45 minutes. The Chicago Bulls went on a 16-1 scoring tear to put the game away in the last three minutes.

An interesting statistic from thaat game: Chicago’s star players, Dennis Rose (or something like that)  shot 4 more free throws than the entire Indiana team. I quit attending games when this sort of thing went on back in the 1990′s. I personally witnessed from maybe 15 rows up, Michael Jordan  push Reggie Miller out of bounds and Miller was called for a foul and thrown out of the game. This was a crucial game for the team that had the leagues biggest star and I realized that this ‘sport’ was anything but on the up and up. I gave up my tickets the following season and have never watched a game since.

Now here it is 15 or so years later and the league’s MVP is outscoring the the entire Pacer team from the charity stripe. ( I hate that term, charity stripe’  but I also dislike repeating myself as in ‘from the free throw line’.
