The last sardine cannery in the country is being closed and another 130 jobs are disappearing. This is like a nightmare. Every time I turn around, another industry is closing its doors. How do the people in charge of things expect workers to find work?
Our sardines will now be coming from offshore, more than likely, China, the land of toxic chemicals in baby formula and sawdust in the bakery products. If this is the case, I’ve eaten my last sardine aand voted for the last incumbent, regardless of who it is, even if it’s George Washington.
In a related note, more good news. 821,000 jobs disappeared last year.
If it makes you feel any better, the Sardines will come from Spain and Portugal, not China.
…..Of course, that doesn’t make up for the loss of American jobs…
While I hate to see American jobs disappearing at the rate they are, I believe the problem is systematic and needs to be addressed at a federal level. In other words, I can’t blame the individual company for doing what they have to do to cut costs in this “Wal-mart” world where there is constant downward pressure on prices. The consumer demands the lowest price but then calls foul when the company has to move overseas in order to provide those low costs. Of course, if our government were to get out of the way of American business and let us do our thing, within reason of course, possibly more jobs could be kept at home instead of going the way of the dodo…
