I decided this morning after watching the morning news that I need a new category where I can lump some of my posts. I’m planning to use it for sort of a not so serious cross between ‘decline and fall of the USA’, ‘For God’s sake, folks, get a life’ and curmudgeonly comments. I’m going to call this new category ’Beats the crap out of me, Tater.’
Tater was a fellow from Loogootee, Indiana who ran a service station where I hung out back back in the early nineteen fifties. It was a great place to talk baseball with a bunch of old guys who spent their spare time at the station commenting on the human condition in general and baseball in particular.
I guess it’s safe to say that Tater was a no nonsense, up front sort of guy who was as American as Apple Pie and Chevrolet. That’s where this new category comes in. There are so many things going on in the 21st century that would not have been believable in 1952 and I feel sure, if Tater were still living, would have prompted a ‘What in God’s name is that all about?” response.
Speaking of new categories, I added one a few days ago called Aesop’s Fables for posts that show up when I’m in a whimsical, allegorical tale kind of mood. I have only had one entry in this; it follows immediately, but I feel sure that the future holds many more.
Film at eleven.
I am going to forward you an email (though I try not to do that) that is pretty relevant to this post….
